HEAD MASSAGE

Massaging your scalp

Stress has a negative impact on overall mental and physical well-being, and therefore also to the hair and scalp. A good scalp massage helps to relieve stress as well as it is conducive to solving dandruff and hair loss problems.

Since a great deal of the human nervous system is located in the head, it's no wonder the area is prone to the effects of stress, tension and strain. Just like a massage for your aching muscles, a scalp massage is the perfect way to ease away the tensions of the day. Scalp massages improve the circulation of the head which makes it very beneficial if you suffer from chronic headaches. In addition, it reduces hair loss problems as it stimulates the growth of new hair. It also reduces dandruff by loosening dead skin cells, because it causes them to fall off easily. When done in the shower, a scalp massage can improve the condition of your scalp and can even be used as a preventative measure for dandruff or other afflictions of the scalp.

A scalp massage helps to keep the hair and scalp healthy. It improves blood circulation and supplies the hair bulb with oxygen and nutrients. It causes the capillaries to tighten and expand and the blood cells to move closer to the blood vessel walls.

Scalp massage is recommended for all hair types. For people with dry scalp, dry hair or dry dandruff, or those experiencing hair loss due to insufficient nutrition (dieting, food absorption disorders), we recommend a vigorous massage, which will enhance the activity of the scalp and hair. Scalp massage may make your hair oily, so people with oily scalp may prefer to massage the scalp before washing their hair.

Try it yourself

Begin the massage with gentle circular motions, which will warm up the scalp. Gradually increase the pressure, but never press too hard. The palms should be gently caressing the scalp, not rubbing it. The skin may move a bit. Light pressure of the fingertips will relax the scalp muscles and calm you down.

1.     Tap gently from the base of the neck up to the hairline and back with your first two fingers, as if tapping on a desk. Repeat this step at least three times.
2.     Apply gentle pressure and move the pads of your fingers in a circular motion at the base of the neck, slowly moving up towards the hairline.
3.     Quicken the pace of the circular motions and increase the pressure slightly as you move from the base of the neck up to the hairline and back again.
4.     Open your hands and widen the pattern of the circular motions to move up the middle of the head to the front hairline and down the sides of each ear.
5.     Spread your fingers, as if they were a wide comb, through the hair, gently scratching the scalp with your nails, starting at the base of the neck and working towards the hairline and back.
6.     Wrap a moist, warm towel around your head and relax.
